Bits and pieces of horse equipment
#1
I'm grateful to Clive Bridger of the LVR-RömerMuseum in Xanten for pointing me in the direction of a privately produced book on horse equipment (mainly, but not exclusively, bits), available as a free PDF download (No.100). All in Italian, but the pictures are sumptuous and worth it (cut and paste into Google Translate if you need the gist). Needless to say, mostly unprovenanced.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Merlot in one hand, Cigar in the other; body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!
