I would like to ask a question
#2
Salve,

The strength around 200 CE, the reign of Septimius Severus, was 33 legiones of some 5000-6000 men establishment stregth, combined auxiliary forces roughly equal in strength, an imperial guard of some 15000 praetorians, some 2000 imperial horse guard troopers. Naval strength is unknown, but may have added some 40.000 men. Total establishment strength was thus probably 400.000 to 450.000 men, the actual strength below that, though it is uncertain how much lower.
