Looking for the date of a battle
#1
I'm having a hard time figuring the actual date of the battle of Carrhae. According to Ovid it occurred on the 9th of June, 53 BC. But I've been told that this is incorrect based on this argument:

"Calculating back from 45 BC (as we are able to do with precision as far as 57 BC, because the lunar cal. intercalations are all attested back that far) 9 June in the period of interregnum prior to the election of the consuls Cn.Domitius and M.Messalla `Rufus' (in lunar July = Julian June) equates with 6 May 53 BC by the Julian solar calendar."

Trying to figure this out is giving me a headache. I'd appreciate any help from anyone with a bit more knowledge of converting the Roman calendar.

Thanks,
Julius Caesar modified the roman calendar, hence the name "julian". Maybe the first date is based on the old calendar and the other one on the julian calendar?
Just a supposition.
