Who needs a zero, anyway?
#1
I'm no mathematician, so number theory is not something I know much about. However, the Romans, Greeks, and everyone else did without the concept of zero for a long time, and built huge projects without it.
How much can you get away mathematically with without using a zero?

I guess the concept of 'zero' has a lot of mathematicians writing books. This recent one goes through some of the gyrations of Roman numerals to explain how difficult math is without a 'zero'.
