I've seen a number of references in secondary sources and some earlier threads in RAT describing the aquilfer as "bareheaded" instead of "bear-headed" (please pardon my pun). But in looking at Cichorius' plates, it does appear to my tired, 50+ eyes that the aquilifer is sometimes depicted as wearing an animal skin. See T. XLII and T. XLIV. Also, my understanding is that the aquilifer in the so-called Louvre Praetorians -- why does anyone think that they're Praetorians? -- was not restored. He's most certainly covered in an animal skin! What do the experts think? Thanks in advance for your responses, which will determine whether I get a new pair of reading glasses with a stronger Rx.
