Vexillifer helmet and cheek guard
#1
Hi all,
I remember this topic was on RAT some years ago, but now the "search" function seems not to find it.

The discussion was about the easy observation that vexillifers, or standards bearing in general, that when depicted with animal fur on the head for the 90% is not visible an helmet or some cheek guards.

By looking on Trajan Column in fact I cannot find vexillifer with helmets, but I remember someone posted more than an image about them?

Do you remember?

There was a brief discussion about cheek guards, or the lack of them, on the helmets of standard bearers on this thread, particularly from this post onward:

Auxiliaries wearing animal skins

And a longer discussion about vexillifers here, but which didn't seem to touch on the issue of helmets directly:

Vexilifer with or without animal skin

That's all I've been able to find!
