Madder root; how to
#1
So I bought a bag of madder root, but the store sold it without any directions on how to make it. Do you soak it overnight in water to extract the dye? Powder it and put it in with the wool/linen? I can't find a recipe, so if anyone has it many thanks!
Legio XX
Oooh, I'd get a good book on dyeing with natural dyes before I'd try anything. You could end up permanently red. You'll probably have to grate or grind it into powder to use it but I have no clue about what mordant to use or in what quanities. Springwater Fibers can probably recommend a few good books and if you are a member there, you can check them out of their library.
Kool-aid in the microwave is about as brave as I want to get with dyeing anything.
Just remember not to use any pots or utensils you'd use for cooking also for dyeing. It's incredibly toxic.
Good luck!!
