Rome Parade
#1
Dear All
I've mentioned this on RAT so I thought I'd put it on here as well,I'm setting up the mosaic display on the Sunday afternoon after the parade,I think it's at the back of the restaurent where everyone meets up after. So if anyone is interested in starting something similar in their own group feel free to come along and have a chat and I'll give you any help I can.The display pieces will be changing soon but the bsaic set up will remain the same.
See you in Rome!
Wish I could be there! I have had a CAVE CANEM mosaic project going for months, or not going actually. I do finally have the workshop built out where I can lay out the tiles and stuff and leave them. I'd be glad to see photos of your tools and techniques.
Legio XX
Back from Rome and what fun we had!One of the lorries had a prang(no one injured fortunately),so all the military kit came doen but none of the civilion buildings or kit.So I ended up being thrown a set of lorica to wear and spent the day in the company of the knucklescrapers marching up and down the roads of Rome.Still quite enjoyable for all that.Fantastic sights over there bit of a shame the city council doesn't seem to take a bit more pride in their heritage. All credit to Ferox and the rest of the Italian groups for pulling it off against what sounds like total apathy from everyone else.It was fantastic to see the mosaics in the Massimo museum, really does knock for six anything you can see here in the UK.I've got plenty of ideas for future work I just need the time free for them all!
Now look darling, my chameleon-like qualities aside, I'm hardly going to create any masterpieces if i'm having spend my time marching up and down the roads of Rome in the company of a lot of sweaty, grunting, farting neaderthals whose idea of a cultured conversation is to endlessly discuss the how best to stick a gladius in someone. Hello all

For those that don't go to the RAT forum but come here instead, you can find some piccies of the Rome parade on the LEG II AVG website.

Sorry but they are nearly all military, but they give you a gauge of the event. LEG II AVG where about half way along the parade.
Graham Ashford

Those are spectacular photos. Where did everyone assemble? Looks like the circus maximus?
Legio XX
Hi there

I did have a map with the route on it but I have lost it, basically we assembled at the circus maximus, went to the colisseum and up one of the roads from there turned around and went back to the circus maximus. After that we piled up the via appia to the grounds of the Quo Vadis restuarant and did our arena shows.

This was the only let down in my opinion, a large crowd followed us all down to the Circus on the return leg and we then milled about until we got to the Quo Vadis .. the shows should have been done at the Circus Maximus, but the Italian beaurocracy (sp) got in the way.
