Model for Xanten almost done (Picture heavy!)
#1
Here's my Legionary model (Pegaso, 54mm), almost done. Pants, boots, sleeves, belt and leather need to be finished and the paenula needs an extra coat of matt varnish.

That looks great, Jasper. I like especially the scutum with its contaminations and the damages due to sword blows. I am looking curiously forward to the weekend. Smile

It's curious. At our web page we have a photo of our beloved optio with the same pose and scutum's emblem.

I thought it would've been an original shield emblem... now I've seen it 3 times in a day!

I got it from an Osprey book. What's the bet he does too?

Yup, I've completely switched to acrylics, retaining enamels and oils only for some purposes (i.e. I matt varnished the paenula yesterday in enamel).

I previously used only GW/ citadel-paint but i´m not satisfied of some of them. A shop only recently got vallejo-paints so i´m trying some colours. Must say that vallejo paints work fine.
I also use oil for soem thing such as metals and blending

Oils for metals? That's interesting. Never done that before.

i still use acryll metal for a more "used" effect but the silver and gold-oil paint are really great. For some reason you get a more shiny effect with oil. Too bad i don´t have a digital camera or i could post some pictures.

And done!

Yes, I know there's more than one error in the late Roman. I promise I'll do better next time. The helmet in the ground is a 2nd C BC helmet.

Fantastic job Jasper. The layered dirt is a great idea (kudos to christy as well). Makes the work really unique.
