Real gear on Romanarmy.com
#1
This is just to let y'all know that hidden under 'Resources gallery' on Romanarmy.com, we are collecting photos of Roman military equipment in museums in Europe. Considering the complaints about the lack of the 'real thing' online (collections like [url:1284r4o1]http://www.romanauxilia.com and [url:1284r4o1]http://www.legionsix.org excepted), I am a little surprised at the lack of hits in that section!
In ' Sculpture', you'll find (at the moment) photos of the Mainz pedestals and the Ahenobarbus relief. In gear are photos of helmets, bits of armor and weaponry from various NW-European museums.
And, just to mention the obvious, whoever has more photos: we have plenty more serverspace!

*Bump*
Matt Lukes has added buckles and other pieces of equipment from his own collection to the Equipment Gallery. More to follow (from different sources).
The Sculpture department has been extended too.

Jasper,

Any chance of getting people to post up details of findspots and dates to accomany the pictures? That would help make the gallery a really useful resource.

The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon
