Hi all -
This has probably been mentioned before, but just in case - anyone know of any source for baseball caps 'commemorating' Roman military units? I'm thinking along the lines of the caps you see veterans wearing from time to time where they list their unit name and any notable actions they were involved in.
I think something similar that said"Coh. IIII Tung. Britannia" etc. with a cohort symbol would be cool. Same with a legionary designation, complete with eagle or the legion's totem animal, plus province of deployment. AUC dates too - why not?
Who cares if no one who sees it knows what the heck you're on about? It's a private thing.
I'm probably gonna go ahead and just have some made for my own entertainment, but thought it couldn't hurt to nose around and see if anyone had beaten me to it.

The guard 5 years back had a craze for U. S. civil war Kepis and this year that has been rivived very much for the benefit of the unit. We don't insist on colour and rank so there is room for individuality . Most tend to stick a badge somewhere but again its not de rigeur.

look up and contact area Silk Screen printers, T-shirt printers, and corportate/promotional/marketing printers. They can print on just about anything these days, pens, coffee mugs, t-shirts, hats, dufflebags...
Most companies/shops ask that you order a minimum, something like 50 or 100, and orders can get "cheaper by the dozen".
Also look for embroidering companies that do patches, shirts, hats. (Think of LL Bean or Coldwater Creek..Maybe ask them for resources)
As for existing items - I haven't seen any for a while. I once saw on eBay a few years ago, someone made and was selling Roman "Concert" shirts, that on the front had a small "SPQR" with leaves, and on the back had a picture of [Trajan's Collumn] with a listing of Battles and Cities that a Legion was based on, not unlike a Rock Band Tour shirt. I think they did it after Legion XX or Legion VI. I really wanted to get one, it was very clever and well done, but I didn't have an account at the time and they only made a few. Keep your eyes open!

A simple and inexpensive way to do it would be to use fabric paint- make up a stencil on your computer by simply choosing the text and font you want, cut out the letters with a razor blade or Xacto knife or something, lightly coat the back with spray glue and apply it to a blank cap- then paint. It'd be the least expensive way to get very specific text if you can't find 10 or 20 others who would buy one too in order to meet the minimum a silkscreen/ embroidery place might require.

Not that you asked, but you can order custom bumper stickers (SPQR, LEG XX, etc) from
[url:1fh7l4u4]http://www.makestickers.com/[/url]
and they let you preview them on screen.

here is the link to our store so you can see what can be done

You want to pay attention to the preferred image size, especially for larger stuff. also the better the picture, the better the image, so use a good scanner or camera. Text only stuff is pretty easy to do, we use Printmaster 18 to do our images, and it is only about $40. Or I can do a quick one and send you the jpg. Just let me know, it takes like 5 minutes.

we use them for an outreach, this stuff is not really a public thing, mostly we order stuff. we sold a few recruiting posters, but you have to know the link to get to it.
cafepress puts the prices there, there is no markup, just sent it as an idea. if i am correct we make nothing on any of the stuff. most of the postcards and stuff we ordered to sell at events. So you are seeing the "raw" site.
You can do a fully commercial site with prices upped and more, always intended too, just never had time.

Easy! they let you fill in the template and then preview it. This was a screen capture. Prices aren't bad either.

So what then would you recommend for your fellow Batavians, Peronis? Teu (or perhaps Woden) would surely be the equivilent of Minerva but I suspect some might prefer Frei, although I think those leather femenalia of yours would rather spoil the effect.
