Independence Day
#1
Avete Omnes,

I'd like to take a moment to tell all our men and women in uniform out there that I admire and support you. Your bravery and courage is an inspiration to us all. I know this is a perilous time for freedom, and your fight against the invisible face of evil will be forever remembered. On this our Independence Day, I think especially of the American soldier, and I honor and thank you.
I wouldn't normally have much positive comment for a day which celebrates our being kicked in the teeth by the fledgeling colonies. However, that doesn't stop me from from wanting to back up our soldiers in Iraq, both British and American. They are doing a difficult job which is not made any easier by politicians who are trying hard to create another Vietnam senario. I hope they have a peaceful day where they get to think about their families back home rather than having to worry about where the next shot will come from.
No hard feelings for something that happened 200 plus years ago. Watch out though as we are starting to veer into the area of current events. If you want to talk about current events or politics you can email me at kslice2k2at aol.com, aolim me at kslice2k2, or msn me at kslice2k2ataol.com. Also a good discussion board, even though i don't always agree with their views, is the historychannel.com discussion area. If you are interested in a good old american political debate here is one another guy and I have been involved in. My posts are the usausausa posts. boards.historychannel.com/threadedout.jsp?forum=95&thread=300017452. It has mostly american posters, but would be nice if some foreign opinions were heard. Im not trying to advertize, but simply am putting a way to talk politics on a discussion board.
I wouldn't be surprised if troops in Iraq and Afghanistan could read your words written here. The internet has found its way into almost every aspect of military life. I'm sure the guys and gals in the combat zone appreciate your kind words, and from those of us who will end up there sooner or later, we thank you as well.
I live about 15km from the Gaza Strip and can hear Israeli ordnance exploding there from time to time. I just give thanks daily to be born where I was, to the family I was, in the world of today. Things could be so much worse.

And that's as far as I'll venture into current events.

Happy Fourth!
Cheers,
