I like the plumbatae! They're large enough, for sure.
But will someone tell them their shields have a vertical grip Confusedhock: instead of the correct horizontal one? Sad

Robert,
As far as I can see, the grips are horizontal...

It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Skytrex in UK used to do an extensive range. They even had additional figures such as "Tar Daubed Flaming Pigs".Most excellent at dispersing both Elephants and Camels along with Byzantine Catephractoi! :o

Ave, Cais Valens.

This is bit long after your first post, but I can make two very good recommendations for figures:

For Late Romans (4th c. +), you can't go wrong with Black Tree Design's 28mm figures:

[url:1ajo6w7q]http://www.black-tree-design.com/btdcat.php?ctry=uk&lng=gb&rangenum=14&typenum=164&qty=0&sub=&shp=&tot=[/url]

Their legionaries are especially nice. The unarmored troops are good, too, but lack any of the embroidery sculpted onto their clothing. You have to paint this by hand.

For 3rd c. Romans, the only range I know of is A&A miniatures--which is OK because they would be they best even if there were a dozen other ranges:

The figures seem to be strongly based on the Osprey book about 3rd Century Legionaries. I'm painting some now and they're so nicely sculpted and cast that it's pure pleasure painting them.

Regards,

David

Hi David (Artorius1960),

thank You for posting those links, I liked the late Roman unpainted soldiers already pretty much, but the painted ones from A&A miniatures yet more. Totally new types with phantastic shield transfers! Never seen 3rd century Romans with hoods as miniatures before, or even the Theilenhofen helmet, the Autun helmet as well as the living eagle in a standard cage as legion's mascot - the whole ensemble obviously animated after McBrides painting in Osprey's "Imperial Roman Legionary AD 161–284".
