Ghostly Romans

Yes that story about Trimalchio is great! Gives a very good idea of a wealthy roman snob!

Two friends from Arcadia who were taking a journey together came to Megara, and one traveller put up at an inn, and the second went to the home of a friend. After they had eaten supper and retired, the second traveller, in the dead of the night, dreamed that his companion was imploring him to come to his aid, as the innkeeper was planning to kill him. Greatly frightened at first by the dream he arose, and later, regaining his composure, decided that there was nothing to worry about and went back to bed. When he had gone to sleep the same person appeared to him and said, "Since you would not help me when I was alive, I beg that you will not allow my dead body to remain unburied. I have been killed by the innkeeper, who has thrown my body into a cart and covered it with dung. I pray you to be at the city gate in the morning before the cart leaves the town." Thoroughly convinced by the second dream he met the cart-driver at the gate in the morning, and, when he asked what he had in the cart, the driver fled in terror.
The Arcadian then removed his friend’s dead body from the cart,
made complaint of the crime to the authorities, and the innkeeper was punished.

Roman Soldiers on the Road. Essex
The ghostly spectre of a Roman Centurion has been seen marching towards the village of Peldon, and has been seen by many drivers. One witness said he had been travelling along the road in a taxi when he encountered a group of Roman soldiers in the road, who disappeared.from:[url:n3nvpx73]http://www.headlesshorseman.co.uk/hitchhikers.html#3[/url]
Peldon is near Colchester...I wonder if the ESG or Colchester Roman Society will suddenly find themselves with new members this weekend ... hehehehe
You know what would be absolutely hilarious....a genuine Roman ghost being told his kit was not authentic enough.....

I remember doing a bit of reading the local library about this one- to see why it was 'Roman' and funnily enough old articles rtc described 'him' as a viking

I guess thats the trouble with 'ghost-hunters' unable to tell a viking from a Roman

Be interesting to see if the descriptions of the Viking included a horned helmet? Rumbled if they do - been on the beer

I just checked elsewhere....definitely Romans in the area, seen marching across the causeway from Mersea.....I assume it wasn't the local guys on the way back from a training session.....
The Centurion is seen on a regular basis....
Also seems at Bradwell-On-Sea, a roman on horseback is seen close to the roman fort. (No era mentioned....or whether Roman or Auxiliary....!)
Now that I would like to see - as long as he is friendly ...

By the way,

The IX Legion has been stationed in the NIMBATROLOBUBU Nebula which is a part of the sallustrial galaxy next to the khavatarian galaxy.

They have been there since they were removed from earth 2000 years ago, by extraterrestrial beings that wanted to have a laugh..... at Humanities expense.

According to a Poll on a certain site ..... Alexander The Great is considered to be an Extraterrestrial by 11% of the voters...
Aristotle was an Extraterrestrial too...
from the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
Aristotle returned as a resident alien to Athens, and was close friend of Antipater the Macedonian viceroy.
and he says: the effect of alien pleasures is similar to the effect of pain since they ruin the activity, though not in the same way as pain

Of course we can not discount the possibility of this "ghost" being a reenactor. I recall not so many years ago that a friend and myself were doing some living history trecking in the Ibiza mountains and were of course shy to be seen by others in our WW2 gear and having to explain away the deactivated weapons, not being real nazis, etc, etc...

Anyhow...some months later we did get to hear from a friend who had been told by a friend who had heard in a bar, etc, etc...how apparently there were German WW2 ghosts been seen in the Ibiza mountains, possibly some specters from the Civil war and such....Hey...
