The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

Yep the elves get some really rather groovy stuff in LOTR don't they? For myself I'd like a set of Gondorian armour a la Faramir in the battle of Pellenor fields Smile

I have always felt identificated with the Rohirrim.

I almost cried when Théoden hit his men spear heads prior to the charge at Pellennor... Cry

Arise!
Arise, Riders of Théoden!
Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered!
A sword day... a red day... ere the sun rises!

[the King rides past his men, hitting their spears with his sword as he goes]
Ride now!
Ride now!
Ride!
Ride for ruin and the world's ending!
Death!
Death!
DEATH!

i saw this helmet at the Ringcon in Fulda last weekend, very nice!

The helmets are wearable BTW - i saw someone with a Gondorian helmet.

They also have the helmet of Sauron!

Gotta admit Im more of a rohan-man also, love the kings sword, very nice I think, and also his armor.

And the sight in the battle for pellenor with all the rohan riders crashing into the orc lines, beautiful! now, just gotta convinse Peter Jackson and the Weta team to do a movie about rome with the same sence of detail Big Grin

My pleasure! Sometimes I put the movie on, just to watch that one scene.. 8)
However, the quote is not really Theoden's. In the book it is Eomer who charges the orc armis after Theoden is killed, using this warcry.

Quote:They also have the helmet of Sauron!
I bet you need to be 7 feet tall to wear that one!

Yeah. Even when you see the orcs are wavering at the sight of the Rohan charge, they easy with which they are ridden down is to hard to believe..

That's what we call "die Lust am Untergang". It isn't really surprising that Tolkien had German ancestry.

I am definitely an Elf lover and have Ereinion Gil Galad on the shelf (not the real one unfortunately Sad //www.council-of-elrond.com/castdb/gilgalad/gilgalad.html">http://www.council-of-elrond.com/castdb ... galad.html
I do admit to finding Eomer and some of the Rohirrim rather attractive though (I'm female and like horsemen.. ) and I actually cried when Theoden was killed which surprised me.... Confusedhock:
Er, I have just suffered deja vu......wierd!!!

Of him the harpers sadly sing:
the last whose realm was fair and free

The actor who plays Gil-Galad (Mark Ferguson) is a very nice guy, he was for the fourth time at the ringcon (together with his friend Craig Parker who played Haldir): [url:2ih5jc7n]http://fotogalerie.herr-der-ringe-film.de/watermark.php?file=77868

The giant Sauron and friends were also present: [url:2ih5jc7n]http://fotogalerie.herr-der-ringe-film.de/watermark.php?file=78961&size=1

I have met Craig he is a really nice person, so friendly and down to earth.
Why I don't go to a proper LOTR convention I really don't know....I was even offered work at one...have my reasons I guess.
I WILL go next year......

Robert, Ivan, and others of cource,

Quote:Robert quoted: My pleasure! Sometimes I put the movie on, just to watch that one scene..

Interesting! Exactly the same do I - this is my absolute favorite scene of the film - and it has many good scenes. For me the whole goose skin situation starts when the camera swivels to the light hill where the silhoutte of the Rohan riders appears against the morning sun and the film music plays the Rohan theme. Absolutely phantastic. And I like the scene with Theoden hitting the spear tips even more than the actual battle scene following.

My other favorite scenes in other films: the Gaugamela battle in Alexander (2004) and the marching-up of the legions in Spartacus with Kirk Douglas. Like Robert I oftenly put the DVD's into the recorder only to see these scenes.
