Spartan re-enactors in America
#1
Greetings,
for those who don't already know, there are now three 'Poliae' of the ASCA Spartan Warband in the USA - California, Montana and Idaho and they are looking for more members ....

They make apologies for their initial dodgy leg and foot wear in some photos Confusedhock:  - maybe they need some members to upgrade the authenticity...... Big Grin
Some nice photos of other Hoplites in their gallery including long haired and bearded Australians.... Big Grin !
The Greek Warriors are Hoplites based in New York [url:2tcukxh4]http://www.thegreekwarriors.com/pages/1/index.htm[/url]

The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

Thanks Cristina.
Spelndit link.
I cannot understand though why every web page shows Greek S like E
and Greek L like A. Apart from that they look fine.
The shields of the hoplite miniatures in the page are depicting epilectoi of the Delean Alliance circa 478 B.C. for those interested in Ancient Heraldry.
Kind regards

Thanks for this thread, Arthes. I contacted both the groups you mentioned immediately. The New Yorkers haven't replied, so far, but THE SPARTANS ARE COMING! :o

See! What I was telling you that gods bless this event.
Artemis Agrothera decided to to intervene.
The name of the hunting goddess used to be the Spartan war-cry in the Archaic period!

Hibernicus here.. or as my Spartan Bros call me: Stratocles

I'm the co-founder.. myself and Barry Jacobsen.. both long time SCA participants....

Your right some of the battle gear is way way out of line.... nike tennis shoes.... these are things that have been eliminated or will be by our next event which is the SCA event known as Estrella War held every February near Phoenix Arizona, USA

We're expecting to field about 50 Spartans in a phalanx ... 12 wide and 4 deep.

Gives me goose bumps!

Stefanos please write me direct at [email protected]

50 is a good start! If you are in the States but can't make it to Estrella near Phoenix you can see us at Pennsic War in August of 2006

We are expecting some members of Spartan Warband at our Festival in the UK, next year. Are you aware of this?
