Tropical Storm Allison Ate Our Web Host!
#1
RomanArmy.com is hosted by Worldwide Systems Analysis, based in Humble, Texas -- a suburb of Houston. EM And this is what Houston looked like this past weekend:

Yup, our unfortunate webhosts are either under floodwaters right now, or just drying out. Humble, TX, suffered 13" of rain in a 24-hour period from Friday to Saturday, and a total of 17" over a 5-day period. You might keep a nice thought for the people of Houston -- and for our poor webhosts! Let's hope they managed to save their servers in time.

If not, we can migrate the site elsewhere. But I expect that it'll be a week or so until we see RA.com back up again. Just thought I'd put out the word in case you've been wondering why the site's down.

Please avoid sending emails to me at romanarmy.com until the site's back up; mail will not get through. You can reach me at [email protected] instead. Thanks.

Regards--
I wondered what had happened, but I didn't think of this possibility. Hope the damage isn't too bad in Houston and it all comes back online before too long. It would be a pity if we made someone curious in Xanten and they couldn't find the site!
Have you had a good trip back down south? Oh, by the way, it seems our conversion attempts have worked on Alexander. At work today he was looking on Proxis for books on the Roman Army. EM
True, Jasper! Well, it may not be so long to wait. Today I finally got some news from WSA about the service interruption:

"Dear WSA Webs Customer,

First of all allow me to apologize for the
inconvenience that the downtime you are experiencing
is causing to you, and/or your business.

Fortunately, WSA and all of our equipment was
completely UNAFFECTED by the storm, and the flooding.

Your data, and your equipment is completely safe.

However, while WSA's equipment was kept safe, the
central offices that provide our links to the Internet
backbone were completely flooded.

WSA is working very closely with our backbone
providers, and is seeking alternative solutions as
quickly as possible.

Restoring your service is of the highest priority to
WSA and we are actively involved in engineering the
fastest restoration of service possible.

Your continued patience, and understanding during this
natural disaster is greatly appreciated at this time.

Sincerely,

Christopher Caruso,
CIO, and Founder,
Worldwide Systems Analysis, LLC"

Since WSA themselves were not flooded, only their commo providers, the possibility of getting RA.com back up and running within a week seems more likely.

Ha-ha! The sinister web we spun at Xanten has drawn in Alexander? ODE EM I knew he couldn't resist the Romans for long -- who could, especially at a smashing event like that?

I'll have to get our Xanten travelogue put together soon so it can be posted once WSA comes back up. Send me some of your great photos? Mine turned out fantabulous!

Cheers,
Jenny
I hope mine are 'fantabulous' as well, they're being developed now, I hope to get them tomorrow.
