Early English Discussion

Since this is the place for "off topics"
I have been wondering if anyone would be interested in
discussing early English history(the fall of Rome to 1066
or later. I am keenly interested in this,too,and would
enjoy discourse with interested parties, especially those
who live in the areas of historical signifigance(York,Kent,etc).
hint,hint.
The more I learn of this time, the more confusing it gets.

I live in York ... There are 'Anglian' cremation cemeteries outside the city, which date to the late 5th or 6th century. So they're respecting the boundary, but quite why is a matter of speculation. No buildings of that date have been found as yet. York doesn't seem to appear in the historical record again until King Edwin's known to be there in the 7th century, as mentioned in Bede ( http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/basis/bede-book2.html )

Oh, and current thinking makes the 'Anglian' tower Late Roman. But the experts could easily change their mind again!

And of course, the Coppergate Helmet is Anglian, not Viking (hurrah!) ( http://www.yorkarchaeology.co.uk/artefa ... phelm1.htm )
