Hadrian\'s speeches in Africa
#1
Recently a volume has been published on the speeches Hadrian gave to the army in Africa in 128 AD. In these the emperor addressed the training of the army, specifically Legio III Augusta, the Ala I Pannoniorum and cohortes VI COmmagenorum, II H(amiorum?) and possibly I Flavia.
Y.Le Bohec, Les discours d'Hadrien à l'armée d'Afrique. Exercitatio (Paris 2003) has 173 pages, 6 plates and 18 pages of maps and costs 25 Euros. The articles are at least partially in French and Italian.

According to the review by Boris Rankov in JRA 18(2005), it is a very useful collection of commentaries and relevant discussion + translation of these texts. Slightly less relevant to the speeches is an article, also included, on the development of Roman weapons and tactics under the principate (in Italian too).
Greets!
