That movie is based off of a book that I have (Fiction obviously).

Written by Valerio Manfreidi, who claims to be a distinguished historian in Europe. (Europeans here heard of him?)

Good book...little too much like modern fantasy writing, but really does a good job of evoking the feel of a falling empire.

Dunno about the movie though... :?

From what I've read and heard about the book, he must be a distinguished historian of something other than late Roman history.

... but really does a good job of evoking the feel of a falling empire.

Except the 'falling Empire' he describes bears very little relation to the actual late Roman Empire. Given that is the 'falling Empire' in which the book is supposedly set, this rather undermines any assessment that it's a good historical novel. If you're going to set a book in the Fifth Century, it surely isn't too much to ask to actually depict the Fifth Century, not some confused Nineteenth Century Romantic fantasy version thereof.

And then they have to make a movie out of this silly book? Typical really ...
