Auxiliae question!
#1
What would be signs of an Auxiliae cohort or "Army" in the late first c. or early secont c. in forms of standars and images? As for example a Legion as I understand it would have a sign telling the name and number of that Legion - LEG XIV GER - (fantasy example).

Is there any other significant features one should think of here?

Have a nice weekend all!

a vexillum with the cohort designation on it would be most appropriate I should think.

(this should really go into Military History and Archaeology)
Have you seen Pintaius - http://www.romanarmy.com/imb/imagebase-show.asp?ID=43 - he's depicted with what looks like a 'normal' standard for an auxiliary cohors.

Awesome.

Anymore good Auxiliary examples, or more importantly where I can find the information? I am working on a Spanish Auxiliary impression Circa 33 AD.

Any good books in English on the topic of Auxiliaries at all?

thanks,

Hi Mike,
Have you tried going to the imagebase searchpage and selecting 'auxiliary infantryman'? -> http://www.romanarmy.com/imb/

And you'll be disappointed, cause I took it temporarily online for revamping. I hope to have it back on tonight.

Didn't get it going last night anymore, but I have got the detailpage back working. I've transferred the data from an Access database to a MSSQL database, so in future I (and anyone willing to help), will be able to add and update the data in the imagebase online.

You'll see a few in there with minimal/no data. They are to be added soon.
