Is our new icon evil?
#1
<FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>The marble head of a praetorian, detached from the Great Traianic Frieze and now displayed in the Berlin Pergamonmuseum, is the latest subject of our "new post" icon.<br>
<br>
One loyal RAT'er has decried the image as an "evil grey head." Another asked if we could make it smaller. Another asked for the old icon back.<br>
<br>
So before I take action one way or the other, I'll ask the RAT membership at large for an opinion: do you like the new icon, or not?</FONT><FORM method=post action="http://p200.ezboard.com/fromanarmytalkfrm6.processVote?topicID=140.topic"><table border=0 cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 width="55%"><tbody><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="1"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>Keep it, I like it!</FONT></td></tr><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="2"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>I could get used to it / I don't care.</FONT></td></tr><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="3"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>It is evil incarnate.</FONT></td></tr><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="4"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>I want the red scutum back!</FONT></td></tr><tr><td><input type="radio" name="choice" value="5"><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>I'd prefer something new, but different from this.</FONT></td></tr></tbody></table><P><input type=submit value="Vote"></form><a HREF=http://p200.ezboard.com/fromanarmytalkfrm6.showMessage?topicID=140.topic&pollResults=on><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=1>Show results</FONT></A> <p></p><i></i>

Additional comment on my voting: I voted for "the return of the <em>scutum</em>" but could also live well with sth. new. In any case, the icon should be smaller than the praetorian head is.<br>

You know how I feel about the Praetorian sissies. Other than that, I kind of like it... <p></p><i></i>

The new head is a little big, methinks. The scutum was good because it was roughly equivalent to the height of a line of text. <p></p><i></i>

I liked it at first, but then found it to be a little overwhelming when I saw it repeatedly on the same page. Perhaps making it smaller would fix that problem. Or maybe we could try something different like a legionairre or centurions helmet?<br>
Just an idea.<br>

Ave,<br>
I voted in favor of the current design but also would favor a centurion or legionnaire figure/depiction. I would favor anything that would depict the might and power of the Roman Army...."Virtute et armis"<br>
