The marble head of a praetorian, detached from the Great Traianic Frieze and now displayed in the Berlin Pergamonmuseum, is the latest subject of our "new post" icon. 
 
One loyal RAT'er has decried the image as an "evil grey head." Another asked if we could make it smaller. Another asked for the old icon back.

Additional comment on my voting: I voted for "the return of the scutum" but could also live well with sth. new. In any case, the icon should be smaller than the praetorian head is.

You know how I feel about the Praetorian sissies. Other than that, I kind of like it...

The new head is a little big, methinks. The scutum was good because it was roughly equivalent to the height of a line of text.

I liked it at first, but then found it to be a little overwhelming when I saw it repeatedly on the same page. Perhaps making it smaller would fix that problem. Or maybe we could try something different like a legionairre or centurions helmet? 
Just an idea.

Its great, but could it be smaller like the scutum was ...?

I voted in favor of the current design but also would favor a centurion or legionnaire figure/depiction. I would favor anything that would depict the might and power of the Roman Army...."Virtute et armis"
