I think it would be a great idea. If I learned even half as much there as I've learned here it would be well worth it.
History World

So it is settled, there will be a Greek Army Talk.

Being a very busy person, and serving as a quasi Design-Admin on our sister Ezboards, I don't think I have the time or energy to serve as the principal Admin for Greek Army Talk.

I will set it up and make it look pretty, along the same lines as our family of allied boards, if someone volunteers to take the helm once the ship is built.

Do we have any willing and able Hellenophiles here? Your principal research interest should be Greek and/or Macedonian warfare. Obviously a mature personality as well, to sort out any disputes that may arise.

Now, Roman reenactors, don't all go doffing your segmentata for the allure of the linen breastplate!

Cheers
I think you would look a lot better in a linen breastplate, Jen, than Matt Amt...

I think this is a nice idea, what time scale do you have for making it go live ?
I need a qualified Graecophile who values references and sources to serve as Admin.

It takes me about two hours to set up an ezboard.
Aue!

Been there on the Greek Army Talk, but there's not really much on it, even welcome messages are still the templated ones offered by ezboards when you create a new board... is this project still alive?
Vale!

Aue, Jenny,

I am not sure of what you mean by "qualified graecophile", but considering the number of months that have passed and that nobody has stepped to do the job, I am offering myself to do so, or to look for someone to do it.

I am a member of the yahoogroups "thephalanx", and on that list there's a great deal of knowledgeable people, scholars and reenactors, that could be interested in this ezboard. Maybe there's even a RAT lurker who, like myself, hasn't been around for a while...

As for myself, I am a great fan of Alexandros the Great and of Athenian democracy, plus all Hellenic things in general, an amateur hoplologist and I am currently in the early stages of writing a historical novel about the 460 BC Libyan/Egypt rebellion against the Great King lead by Inaros and the events that surrounded the fates of the Athenian forces that were sent to backup the rebellion by petition of Inaros himself. I am a much better hoplologist than a writer and I am therefore trying to write a warfare correct (or as correct as possible) novel as it's possible (and thus swimming in tons of sources, so I'm slowly becoming knowledgeable on the subject and falling in love with it)...

Just my 2eurocents to keep this initiative alive

Vale!

So You are doing a book on the Athenian Egyptian Expedition.

I have largely completed a short Non-Fiction book about the Expedition. Mainly an Analysis of the sources. I have it in PDF form and I can E-Mail it too you if you are interested.

What amazed me was the poor quality of the sources and the LACK of information concerning the Expedition.

I take it you have already looked up Ctesias, (Photius` summary), Diodorus, and Thucydides. Frankly there is some more but it is not all that good. Aside from the main text I have a long series of appendices including the source material, which includes the above and other classical authors.

If you are interested I can send this info. too you.

I can be reached at [email protected] .
