arrows vs mail (thanks John)
#1
Hi guys
against arrorws I have read about the very considerable efficacy of mail armor coupled with some type of subarmalis/gambeson. I seem to undertsand that without subarmalis the arrows may penetrate slightly. Check out

This was flagged to be by the excellent John McDermott

To your knowledge what is the evidence of the romans using subarmalis with mail? Was it a standard match, or only used against enemies with arrows. In particular did the legionaries of Crassus or even Antony wear subarmalis?
