A Website dedicated to Reconstructions by Reenactors?
#1
Just wondering what everyone thinks about having a site with posts/pics/hints/tips on reconstructions relating to everything from armour, weapons and clothing to some of the more mundane items like wax writing tablets, ancient paint and that sort. This would be a Roman era site, but would include pieces of equipment from people that have chosen to portray some of Rome's traditional enemies.

I have some ideas as to how the site could be organized, but I want to know what everyone else thinks, and also, if people would actually take the time to scan/send pics, even if the item was made years ago. This could be a great resource for people in need of more visual references, and a great place to show off your work.

Thoughts?

PS - While I have limited skills with dreamweaver, I would be more than happy to start this project.
"Only Trajan could go to Dacia."
I had something like this in mind as part of RomanArmy.com, assuming we can get the damn thing back online soon. E EM
Why don't you hook up with us, rather than starting another site? We use DW4 and you can build your section of the site as you like, so long as it follows the general format.

Interested, drop a line. I'd love to have your help, if you're experienced at this sort of thing.
Absolutely Jenny. Again, I used DW4 to make my own site, but I lack any knowledge of flash, or animations. But I have thourough knowledge of other programs like photoshop and illustrator (Adobe products), which makes things easier.
If there is enough interest, let's do it. You are right though, if RA.com can have a section on the above mentioned topic, then that would make tons more sense. Once RA.com is up and running, then I would think that would be a good time to start. Maybe this thread will give us an idea as to who will contribute and how much.
"flash and animations"?
Just a thought...

the more crap my browser has to wade through to get to the "meat" the quicker I dump the site.
Still over 1/2 of the internet users don't have high speed access, even just in North America. I don't even have cable TV in rural Oklahoma. My fastest downloads with a 56K modem are usually in the low 40,000 baud range with averages in the low 30,000 baud range.
Don't waste time and effort on pretty frills. Put up well constructed, logical pages, with good links and fast loading photos, when possible. If I have to "download" a new application to see someone's latest webpage, I'll usually pass.

The plain and simple works most of the time. The fancy stuff is just a way for Bill Gates and others to make you think you need newer computer software, a faster processor, or whatever will give them your money, when you could be spending that money on a catapult or something else useful.
