#1
May have been previously posted (though I can't find it) - but new pics of the Roman lamp found by a metal detector in Sudbury

Restored (though without the translucent horn panels)

And video of the find on the day of find

And finally a modern replica of the similar Pompeii find from Holger Ratsdorf http://www.hr-replikate.de/katalog/en/index.html

Now on display at the Ipswich Museum!

Had been repaired in antiquity - different feet applied. Although some portions of these have been found in Britain, this is the most complete yet!

Rvfilia has one made by Steve Wagstaff which works beautifully! (only £50 too!) I'd suggest that parchment was used rather than horn.

As it has been metal deterctored (is that a word??), is there anything known about the context it was found in? The date of the site, known occupation time frames etc?
Moi Watson

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Merlot in one hand, Cigar in the other; body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!
