Atilla In the UK
#1
I heard something on the radio the other day to teh effect that Atilla went missing for a couple of years and was said to be "in the Islands"

Apparently there are a a few towns with Att & Hun in their titles and this idicates that he was here in good old Blighty :?:

Anyone else hear it ...know owt about it ?

Cheers

Strange. Like the current mythological rage about the so-called DaVinci Code, it seems to me. People seem to think that the British Isles have been a magnet to all things of historical and mythological significance. As much as I loved living in the UK and desire to visit again soon, I consider it just a wee bit exaggerated.

Now, Attila may have been in the "islands," because that description is apt for many, many places...

Greetings,
so....these were the mystical isles for a long, long time.....and all that went missing without trace, or otherwise.....found it's way here....
Alexander is probably lurking in the basement of the British Musuem, Atilla has been breeding hordes of vandals who love hanging out in taverns ( Tongue ) the Trojans put Paul up to inviting the Hoplites here - again!
Arthur has a comfy cave under the hill oop North and sometimes rides out with his Sarmatian knights to scare the hell out of anyone passing by...and usually referred to as 'that bunch of late Roman re enactors....'
We have giants and faeries, elves and hopgoblins, werewovles, banshees and hollow hills.......
of course Atilla decided to pay us a visit.........!
I actually spent a while living in one of those Huns.... places.....
regards

The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

OK... Big Grin
Well, why not? I mean, if Attila was indeed (prior to his rise to power) serving with Roman forces as an ally, then I see no reason believe that he was never in Britain. But as a Hunnic king? I doubt it.
However, I would very much like to know where these tales of him being 'away' are based on. Not Roman sources, I fear.

For those intersted in following this up, next to a Wandlebury (occording to some named after the Vandals) there's also a Hunbury hillfort, no doubt the residence of Attila during his stay in Britain!
And how about that famous 'Commander of the North', Coel Hen? Must've been Coel Hun!

The truth is that during those 2 years, Attila settled on the Moon limes.
