Brebia (brevia), matrix (matrix or matricula)

As far as i know,
A matrix is a list in which soldiers and their ranks were written, i.e. a muster-roll.
A brebion (Gr.) is also a list by which number of soldiers and ranks can be known.

Is that correct?
Could someone please explain them more?

As far as I know a list of names of soldiers with their ranks was also called a laterculus.
