Awards can be won for various reasons, see the medals page ( http://www.romanarmy.com/rat/medals.php ).
Immunes is simply the next rank you've reached. In the Roman army that meant that you were exempt from menial duties. No more latrine digging for you!

Awards are won by posting good posts, giving information, helping others, in short, by being a good member. Look for the exact qualifications in the old threads. The 'search' function is a very useful one!

Good posts can be lots of things, informative, a good question, helpful... Read some of the 60,000 posts on this forum so you get a taste for what is appreciated by people and what isn't. That should give you an idea.
