I guess I must be crazy but I didn't think the book was that bad... If you read it the same way as you would read an adventure/fantasy story it isn't that bad. There are a lot of scenes in the book that are very movielike. It is true that the book seems to be a moviescript.
I can already imagine the massacre of the outnumbered legion. The flashbacks of a buring city by night. The mounted chases. The snowboarding down snow covered slopes on shields. The singing of melancolic songs while they travel by barge on the river
Like I said, very much fantasy atmoshpere. istorical the film will be worse than crap but it might be a very enjoyable film. Oh and I think Stephen Mckid isn't a bad actor...
