Giannis,

Thanks for your encouraging words! Indeed, my Scythian clothes were inspired by that very figure from the gold warrior vase from the Kul Oba burial. You have a good eye! I also referenced details from every original depiction of Scythian men that I could find! Fortunately, there are some very good representations on metal vessels from that period without having to resort to Greek Vase images.

I have even grown my hair long to accomodate this impression! For what is a Scythian without long hair (plus a beard and moustache)? Unfortunately, It meant I had to sacrifice participating with my WWI French reenactment group because they would not allow me to have long hair---EVEN IF IT IS COMPLETELY HIDDEN! Oh well, I was doing too many historical impressions anyway <laugh>.

My next project is finishing a scabbard for my sword. It will be wood covered in sheet brass (not gold) embossed with lions chasing anteopes. I will be adapting the decorative design directly from an extant artifact scabbard.

A scale cuirass in the Scythian style is in the works too. I've cut out over a thousand scale thus far but I now face the daunting task of making (i.e. drilling or punching) 5 holes in each scale! Aaaaargh!

Cheers,
Tim

Thank you, all. I have painted my shield, Zenodoros, but the device (of a bull's head) doesn't go with the Thespian panoply. I'm expecting a shield to replace the sample I sent to India and, when that arrives, I plan to paint the Hound of Hecate on it.

Exact copy of scales found in Mycenaean graves. They then looked and made copy from middle eastern wall art( Egypt and Near east). As could not find full Mycenaean copy in any of the art. Swords and axes within 100grams of those found in graves. Sheilds of cow hide we still working on but we think we have cracked how to do them. Should have four of us in the next few months.

We even talking on doing the chariot with crew of three driver and two in the pics.
