Are YOU of Pictish descent ?
#1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many people fancy themselves to be just because they have Scottish last names in this country, but via intermarriage over the decades and centuries the "Pictish" in many of them has probably been diluted out of existence. But now you can prove it (maybe)
Supposedly, you can find out now thru DNA tests
Hmmmm, he doesn't say "We know that this would have been found only in Scotland." I kind of miss the point to all this. If you're a seven stone weakling then you're neither a Pictish warrior nor Norse berserker, no matter what the chromosomes say. Move on, get over it, and no it doesn't give you the right to a crofter's cottage in the Highlands. :wink:
I have one of those Scottish last names, but I can't trace a single ancestor back to anywhere in the UK. (Mostly around the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe)
Kind of odd too, because my last name isn't an exceedingly common one either.
I have the opposite problem.
"Clark" is in theory scottish, but was so prevalent after they cleared the lands of tenants (and low class being only a trade and not a clan name) that many people claimed it in England and thoroughly diluted any scottish connection. That's made it completely ubiquitous, which is why I joke that "Clark" is scottish for "Hey Sailor"
Hmmmmh,
I have ancestors whose surnames are 'of the clans', problem with DNA testing for just one haplogroup, if it isn't there in your genes....you have wasted the money in theory....
but it would be interesting to see how the 'Pictish' DNA compares with that of the Scythians and Thracians... Big Grin D D
I would love to have DNA testing...if I could afford it, I was checking it out a week or two back..... but would probably find I am one of the many descended from Genghis Khan...!
I would love to be able to do this! Except I don't have enough money. But it would be nice to know ancestry, but ancestry isn't solely just about genetics. Its also about culture and national pride.
lol Funny you should mention that Cristina, about Genghis Khan and the mongols. On my mother's side, there is a faint "Asian" looking appearance and I have inherited it as well. (My sister was born looking asian, then gradually became more causasian looking as she got older lol) So maybe, its the lingering mark of the mongols.. or even the huns. lol
Sorry that went a bit off topic.
Sometimes, the genes express themselves at different time intervals during a lifetime.
John Wayne definitely had Pictish features. So, look-wise, he wasn't that bad a choice for playing Genghis Khan.
My father was O HR - or O negative ... Its common among people of Celtic descent, but the Basques are the one who have the gigest % of O HR- factor... But its the most commong around the world. Its less in eastern Europe.
My Mom is A + , wich is common in Corsica , the Adriatic, Spain, or egean shores..
And its the gigest % among greeks like 42 of the rest of blood types.
===============================================
Gengis & mongols maight had been blood B its comon in Asia.
I think the Clan McGregor claim descent of the aboriginals, wich is ... Welsh (Picts?)...
Quote:I'm B-.
B is common in eastern Europe & Central Asia...
Even unrelated people can have the same blood, it doesnt mean that they had a common ancestor. Like Jews & Asians even Blacks have B blood.
But something that change is the resus (HR).
According to a Dr. told me that I can have B blood because my parents blood types, its like they combine and become one diferent type, or I can inherit one of either blood type of my fathers, & combine with diferent resus...
For example if my mom is A+ and father is O-, then I could have this:
1) A- or A+
2) O- or O+
3) this combination make B in rarely.
I dont know if its only in this case...
But luckily my wife is O+ and had my girl with the same blood type.
I f they were both the same O- , it would reject the baby.
O- its the only blood type that cant donate his blood to another O- , but can to other types not on its own.
Hi Faventianus,
I guess I should've put "IMO." What do I base that on ? Look at his eyes. See how slanted they are ? Very reminiscent of oriental shaped-eyes. You see this in some Hungarians. So you "know" those are "Hunnish" features ;-) )
