Suggest a name for a new magazine!
#1
As of next year, I'll be editing a new magazine on ancient military history. It'll be full color, starting with 52 pages, 6 issues a year. It'll cover ancient history as a whole, but with a strong focus on Rome. (by and large 55% Rome, 40% Greece/Hellenism, 5% ancient near east). You'll here much more about it soon, but for now, we need a title!
So please put your suggestions for titles in this thread. If your suggestion gets picked, you'll get a free subscription for the first year!
Greets!

Three thoughts:

1) Phalanx

2) Aquila

3) Imperium

Any of these subtitled "A Magazine of Ancient Warfare"

Gladius sounds straightforward and to the point but I think there already is an ancient military bulletin with that title edited by Fernando Quesada Sanz from Madrid.

Graham.
"Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream" Edgar Allan Poe.

"Every brush-stroke is torn from my body" The Rebel, Tony Hancock.

"..I sweated in that damn dirty armor....TWENTY YEARS!', Charlton Heston, The Warlord.

Gladius it's the name of one review of military studies at Spain, published by the Consejo Superior Investigaciones Cientificas, by the ministry of Science.

Roman Army Magazine? (RAM)
actually, "Gladius" is what first came to mind, then "110", then
"Ancient Military History" or "Ancient Military History Magazine"
why not say what you mean? Big Grin

"Magazine of Ancient Roman Studies" (MARS)

Classical Military Studies

Magazine of Classical Military Research

Sexy legs in history, a study of the Greeks, Romans and others in short tunics....

I just want to see a centerfold with a full color collectable poster by a military artist, like Connolly, Sumner, Beall....

Several good ideas have already been put forth. (MARS - I like that one.)

Has something simple like SPQR already been used, or in current use or does the city of Rome have a lock on that?

Or...

Centurion - The Magazine of Ancient Military Studies

Hoplite - The Magazine of Ancient Military History

Actually Caius has a good idea -- a centerfold in every issue of an ancient soldier in full regalia. One issue a Centurion, the next an Immortal, then a Spartan Hoplite, A Praetorian, etc. etc. etc. As for a title...Legs Of The Ancient World...Big Men in Short Tunics...

"Big Men in Short Tunics" might get a wider readership base, at least
