Equipment of the Italian Socii
#1
Salvete,

I have developed an interest in the allied legionaries that fought alongside the Romans in the republican period (from c.4th Century BCE to the Social War), and have come up with a few questions.

What equipment would these allies have worn? Would they have been armed merely in the same fashion as their Roman allies, or would they perhaps have worn equipment that would have distinguished them on the battlefield, or worn (e.g. Etruscans sporting forms of hellenistic equipment)?

Are there any texts that deal specifically with the socii on campaign or in battle that I could read up on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Well I suppose 4'th BC to Social war is a rather long period of time but at least towards the end of it, i suppose from second punic war, the equipment would be the same as a roman would have had
