Legion Stamps and Marks

Is there a collection (published or Internet) of the stamps in tiles, bricks or even the stamps themselves of different Legions that anyone knows about? I have seen some markers in different books, but can't remember if I have heard of an entire collections of them.

You will find a large collection of legionary stamps on bricks (and coins) on
www.romancoins.info in the relevant sections.

There is also a large publication of the Passau University of the Fritzemeier collection from Munich, Germany (difficult to get) .

That was another helpful site. Any idea HOW things were stamped? Wood or metal stamp? Any ever found?

I was also thinking of the brands used to mark wax tablets and the wood leafs that were official business of governors, etc, found in Britain.

Probably all of the above- wood, copper alloy, iron, lead and ceramic. I've seen a lead 'bread' stamp (not the best choice :lol: ), and lots of copper alloy seal rings for impressing wax, lead and other types of seal materials. Doubtless ceramic was quite common since it's so easy to work with clay and if bricks, tiles, etc. are being made the material and firing kiln are right there. Certainly for branding wood, iron or copper alloy would be most appropriate.
