Here's a photo I took a week ago at the Herakleio Museum on Crete.

Cool pic... Archaic Crete is a particular interest of mine. (See topic on "Crete helmets and stuff" below.) Do you have anything on the Afrati finds? ...in particular any images? I cannot get a copy of either of Snodgrass's publications or Hoffmann's Early Cretan Armores.

Dear Ralph,
I don't think I have any pics of the Afrati finds but I do have Snodgrass' books. Just tell me which images you need from there and I'll scan them for you.
Cheers,
Ioannis

Thanks for the offer... Since I cant seem to get may hands on any of the mentioned copies, I will leave it up to you to post. My inbterest is the Archaic period, especially Crete. Most member favor the Persian Wars on... Whatever you post will be appreciated.

Here's an Archaic helmet from Axos, Crete.

I posted a thanks note earlier and it seems to be missing... snatched by the Cartheginians no doubt...
Anyway... THATS the helmet I was looking for, published in an armour book in the 70s. Thank you.

I think there are two similar specimens.
One in the Metroprolitan Meusum of Art New York and the other in Herakeion Meusum in Crete if memory serves me right.
The Pegasus safely indicates connections with Coritnthos and the Rodax at the side near the eyes marks the wearer as an initiate of the Eleysinian Mysteries.
Kind regards

This is one of two from the Met that Comerus posted on the "Crete:helmets and stuff" thread. The other, more complete one, also from Afrati, is serving as a design base for one I am having made for me by Manning Imperial. This will also go with greaves and an Argos bell. This is one of the reasons I am asking about the Afrati finds. The incised decorations on the helmet will be included, but I have no information on the other pieces, so I do not know if the greaves and Argos bell should have any or not.
If anyone has any suggestions...
