WANTED: (Late) Roman groups for a Roman event.
DATE: June 30 - July 1.
PLACE: Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
INFO: http://www.romeinenfestival.nl/index.html
VENUE: The Brakkenstein country estate: http://www.noviomagus.nl/Vrij/Brakkenst ... inCat.html
This event is the follow-up of the first Nijmegen event held in 2005. It will be repeated in 2008 and after that it will alternate with the Xanten event (Nijmegen & Xanten 2007, Nijmegen 2008, Xanten, 2009, Nijmegen 2010, Xanten 2011 etc. etc.).
That means that if we like it, it's a good event to return to. You can see pictures of the 2005 event here: http://www.fectio.org.uk/shows/nijmegen2005.htm
But this will be at a different spot, much better I believe, check the other link supplied above.
All Roman groups are welcome, but I've been asked to ask the Late Romans groups especially, since earlier Roman groups are already present. I'm not the organiser this time, but I'm a good friend of the man who organises the re-enactment part of the event (Wim/Cordvs from the Corbvlo group), he was also at Archeon this year.
Interested? You can either get in touch directly ( [email protected] ) or tell me first, I've been advised to contact the organiser first and tell him that Cordvs sent us (I'll do that today).

I\'\'ve seen things you people wouldn\'\'t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams ... glitter in the dark near Tanhauser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost ... in time, like tears ... in rain. Roy Batty

Yap. We ll have our own camp, we will be in Xanten and perhaps we will also take part in Kalkriese.
After that we ll have a bunch of other events (take a look on my pm).
By the way we hope to visit some schools, university and museums, so... tempus fugit.
If it will look like we can manage it anyway i ll cry instantly!
Ah and by the way: i speak for Flavii, not for Minervii, not that it be missunderstood.

The Late Roman part of this event will almost certainly not be realised. It will concentrate on Flavian times for now.

Another Late Roman meeting cancelled...
It looks as if we wouldn't be interesting for the public. It's not so amazing if Deepeeka doesn't want to produce helmets and gear for us

It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

I wouldn't take the lack of response from Deepeeka as a Late Roman thing. Many an earlier Roman item has also gone into limbo, even though they've been finalised.

So it would seem, but that's not quite the story. I received a message that Late Romans were welcome, but later that turned out to be 'premature'.. The event will be organised for the second time, at a new spot, alternating as of next year with the Xanten event. I can understand that they want to go Flavian this year. I really hope this one will develop some sure footing, it would be a shame not to have an international Roman event in The Netherlands!
(To the members of Legio II Augusta: sory guys, the Archeon event has diminished somewhat lately...)
Maybe in 2008 or 2010 there's room for us.. Still, I can't deny that I was sad when the news came.

Ok, it's official, the Nijmegen event has cancelled their activities for 2007. next date will be 28-29 june, 2008.
Reason? Money, of course. A grant was promised and then withdrawn...
