Phrygian helm
#1
Manning Imperial's reconstruction of a Phrygian helm.

I realize that this is a Greek helm and should likely be in that forum, but hear me out. I placed this here because Dr. Lazenby's [amazon]Hannibal's War[/amazon] shows what seems to be a Roman legionary of the Second Punic War wearing one of these helmets, if not one of a similar design. Though I know we usually assign the Montefortino to this era in time and that the illustration may be a mistake, Dr. Lazenby is a very meticulous person and, well... Is there any evidence that this helmet was used by Roman legionaries at any point in time?

Do you mean the guy on the cover of that book?

He's Carthaginian infantry, IIRC. Liby-Phoenician, to be more exact.

Or do you mean another illustration inside the book?

 Oh...oops.
My ignorance is showing...

Wow, okay, that basically rendered the topic moot.

Well, is the helmet the same as the one made by Manning Imperial?

I think it's a Thracian helmet, perhaps of 'phrygian' style?
