Hmmm, perhaps we should start a thread in Ancient Civ talk to be sure we send them on their way with the proper prayer to the right deity. Given the fact that I have come across the most obscure deities, I'm sure something usefull will turn up :lol:
We may even institute a new reward, but then again, this will probably not be in the spirit of this forum to tack one of our "own" to the wall for ignorance, although I have understood from previous posts a chap called Woadwarrior would have been a likely candidate. He was well before my time, though. As a relative novice and ignorant in more matters than I would wish to contemplate, I would shun at running the risk of having such a plaque fixed to my avatar :oops:

Oh, Woadwarrior was still around only a few months ago, and it was not that he was ignorant - he asked fairly sensible questions - he just never paid any attention to the well intentioned answers everyone else provided to answer his questions and kept on asking them. :roll:

The subarmalis looks good but I would suggest adding a good deal more padding on the shoulders and chest to pad the areas where the armour weighs most heavily, as well as being the area most likely to be recieving blows.

Ok....I realize that this thread is almost a year old...but where are the pics of the subarmalis yall are referring too? I used the search feature specifically looking for threads like this to find pics of other peoples subarmalis' and now I feel like the emperor from The Emperor's New Clothes"...i.e. the butt of a joke that I just don't get.... :oops:

We will likely use that type for our legionary's. For myself, I should have been clearer, I am looking for one that is done with leather pteurges as I'm doing a centurio impression. I am up in the air at the moment as to whether to do the body in linen/felt and somehow attaching leather pteurges to the shoulders and waist, or doing the whole thing in leather, as it will be worn under a lorica hamata.

I did my outer layer in leather with the pteruges on shoulder and hem attached. This can be worn over a linnen padded subarmalis. It keeps damp out (and somewhat in). I recently did a trial wear at the Xanten event in Germany for a good 3.5 hours, and was not at all disappointed at the comfort of the leather keeping the hamata off my tunic. As I am still working on it, I want to add an extra layer of pteruges in the shoulder section and perhaps along the hem, I am not yet set to post a how-to, but give me a PM and I can send you some pictures through regular e-mail. I STILL haven't mastered the act of posting images through RAT forum :oops: By the way, I was informed pteruges were NOT exclusive to centurions, several stela and monuments bear this out.

Caius, check out La Wren's Nest website. They sell a linen subarmalis and a leather one witha double row of pteruges with gold fringe for a Centurion impression.

Thank you, I'll try to drop a pm to you reqesting those pics. I too have seen others besides centurions with pteurges in pictures, but it doesn't seem to be a common occurence. Personally I think they look good with any armor, but I wasn't completely sure about the authenticity with other than centuriones as those are the only ones of the "lower" ranks that I have seen on reliefs, steles, etc with them. Though I admit that both my knowledge and the number of them I have seen is very limited. I do like the idea of wearing linen underneath the leather as it provides a layer between the sweaty body and the leather, and I have seen first-hand what sweat can do to leather over time.

I have actually been looking repeatedly at the ones that La Wren's Nest has on their site. It is probably lthe direction I will go if I decide not to make one myself. I also spent several hours last night (when I should have been sleeping) checking out all the other clips on youtube as well, hehe. Finally stopped after watching some clips from I, Claudius. I so need to get myself a copy of that whole series.
