Winter Scout
#1
LEG XIIII is currently planning a day scout the first weekend in Jan 2007.

Scout will entail hiking 5 to 7 miles with a break for lunch, and possible dinner in a nice forested area that resembles the Rhineland.

All participants should have as much period correct gear for Roman, or barbarian impression. Modern shoes will be ok for those who do not have period footwear, or are not accustomed to wearing period footwear on a long hike.

We are planning on marching with light order, only shields, armour, helmet and weapons, food and water supply.

Barbarians can come armed, or as civillians.

We would like to invite anyone within a few hours of Charleston WV to participate. If you are interested please contact me ASAP, so I can make arrangements.

Please be aware that the weather could possibly be very cold. Make sure you have the proper clothing and gear for cold weather.

Hurray for winter marches! Congratulations on getting it organised and getting it done. Its a great effort, but well worth the effort, in my opinion. Forgive my ignorance, but in which province was the XIIII legion stationed? (I ask because I can see all that chequered material!).

The Last Legionary
This book details the lives of Late Roman legionaries garrisoned in Britain in 400AD. It covers everything from battle to rations, camp duties to clothing.

Sorry Paul I just saw your post here. The 14th was stationed in the Rhineland, and was later sent to Britian around 60 AD for the Boudicea revolt.

All the checks are being worn by our comrades who portray mainly Britons, and Germans.
