If you're in the Colchester, UK area tomorrow you might want to drop in on the unveiling of the Roman Chariot Racing Mosaic. This was made to celebrate the discovery of the Roman chariot race track in Colchester.
The mosaic itself is 6m x 3m and was made using volunteers and 1,500 pupils from a nearby school. It was made using ceramic tiles but I saw it when it was about half completed and it is a fantastic effort.
Also in the Garrison Riding Arena there will be a display of finds discovered during the excavation of the circus.
It all kicks off with the mosaic being unvelied by Griff Rhys-Jones in Colchester's Abbeyfields at 1100.
I'll be at the Riding Arena flogging off some samian ware, and getting hypothermia no doubt.
See you there!
Lawrence
