Berlin Helmet
#1
I was just in the Pergamonmuseum in Berlin the other week, and noted with interest (among the other jaw-dropping wonders in there) the exquisite late Myrmillo helmet for a gladiator. It's featured in Wiki under;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/gladiator
-I was astonished at its comparatively solid state - apart from a bit of corrosion, it didn't seem to have been battered around much. Also, the remains of tinning on the outer surface led me to think that the effect of a combatant entering the arena on a sunny day, wearing such a pristine helmet catching the sun, might be comparable to the mirrorball in a disco!
Is it fair to say that such an item might be deemed 'too good' to fight in, and be worn for parades etc?
Curious!

It gets better as the surface is etched with scales thus enhancing the shine ... it would gave glittered like a disco ball Big Grin

There is aslo a matching grieve!!

My view would be that it was fought in ... all about the show & spectacle etc etc

Do or do not, there is no try!
