Your kit looks familiar, Claudius Smile

So, you're doing third century by the looks of your belt. Very impressive. So you made the belt, baldric, and shield yourself ?

What about armor ? Do you plan to wear chainmail?

Looks great, Chuck Big Grin ! I especially like the deep red colour of the scutum, usually the reconstructed colours are too bright in my opinion! I will perhaps make also a scutum with a Chi-Rho monogram...

Not by the looks of that shield decoration! I wonder if these ring buckle belts were still in use during Constantine's reign...

Sword I'm not sure of, but afaik the belt does no longer show up on early 4th images. Or, you could re-paint the scutum. That's cheaper for sure.

Looking good, I esp. like the boss. You might make a later belt and, an earlier scutum and, then you've pretty much got both periods covered Big Grin .

I think I've seen some that are simple "sticks with leaves" but, I'm not sure. I'll get back on that.

I'm _completely_ new here, so forgive my ignorance.

Concerning that particular ring belt, when was it used, how was it constructed, and where's the primary source material for documentation?

Thanks in advance.

During the 3rd c., I'm not sure, and try Bishop M.C. & J.C.N. Coulston (2006): Roman Military Equipment from the Punic Wars to the Fall of Rome, Second Edition, (Oxbow).

May be sounding stupid here (but whats new) but are you going to treat the inside of the leather with neatfoot oil to get rid of that fresh new leather look?
