Who also thinks *&^%^%%^^ didn't *&^ at the end of season 2? (self censored until tomorrow)
But it was also running into I Claudius. Still, starting to see Livia develop her nasty habits would be pretty interesting.

Quote:I only got to see the first season when it came out DVD, and right after watching the 1st episode, I was hooked! What appeals me about the show is that the main characters are really just two ordinary blokes, and we see the political machination and story usually from their point of view.
Yes that is the great part of the show! I just cannot understand why doing that with Pressfields 'Gates of Fire' proved such a puzzler to Hollywood!

I thought the last shoe was on wednesday :?:
"The Kaiser knows the Munsters,
by the Shamrock on their caps,
And the famous Bengal Tiger, ever ready for a scrap,
And all his big battalions, Prussian Guards and grenadiers,
Fear to face the flashing bayonets of the Munster Fusiliers."

I think it's a great series, it's a shame they aren't doing a third, but I can understand why. One thing I struggle with is why they show legionaries with Segmentata, surely there wasn't any around at this time?

Hi all
Your right it was not around untill 9AD (I think) but as a buddy said to me they stuck the Segmentata in because it looks better than the mail (all of the heliments are not correct as well)

Only Octavian's soldiers (and not even all of them) wear segmentata. I don't think I saw any soldiers in the army of Brutus and Cassius wearing them.
Segmentata are often associated with imperial Rome, so I think they did it to show the shift from republic to principate.

Also, during the war between Antony and Octavian it let you know whose soldiers you were seeing.

9 BC is the earliest find to date, apparently. But that's a find, and there is a 'school of thought' that it would have therefore been introduced much earlier.

My German was never very good -- no facility with languages (to my shame)
Could someone favor us with a "rough" translation -- looks like his comments might be interesting.
Thanks.
