How will you inform the masses when you are ready with the hosting packages? Will there be an e-mail?

Yup, the newsletter is a perfect medium for that, isn't it?

Hey Jasper,
You might consider simple DNS forwarding, instead of actual web-hosting yourself. Given the interest and questions you are getting already, it looks like you might be getting yourself into the ISP business!
hock:
DNS forwards would enable those of us with interest to use a "legion.romanarmy.com" URL, but then we could choose to pay for whatever space, bandwidth, and extras (like blogs, galleries, etc.) we wanted ourselves on another host.
Also, having us find hosting elsewhere would relieve you of the liability issues that hosting may bring. (Not sure if this is as much of a concern elswhere as it is in the lawsuit-paranoid U.S.A.)
Just some thoughts. . .

Time for a bump as Magnus asked me about it again. Both actual hosting and domain forwarding can be done. The latter basically means that if you have a site that's properly hosted and live already, but without a 'nice' domain name (say a geocities or yahoo name), that could be prettyfied.

Ok, here's the deal:
Reenactment groups, and any other appropriate groups/clubs/institutions/researchers can get:
- 50MB hosting space with plenty of traffic
- a .romanarmy.com subdomain
- personal support by yours truly
For USD 15/year + the demand to put up a link to romanarmy.com and ancient-warfare.com.
For just those two links and a donation of USD 5/year you can get a domain forwarder, that is: you host your site, we'll give you a .romanarmy.com subdomain that forwards to your host. (basically, your site gets a pretty name).
Interested? Contact me at jasper *AT* romanarmy.com

Hmmmm, this would be good for the Ninth Legion we are starting in Aberdeen.

Gaius, Not sure we'll need one tbh... as ninthlegion.co.uk is nicer than ninthlegion.romanarmy.co.uk
Well in my opinion, I sooooo need to get my ass in gear and update the website! haha..
