the inscription fascinates me: first i wonderedd whether the first line is not part of another text that was originally on top of this stone but that seems not very likely...


first line could be perhaps an invocation to Fidelitas or Fides? FDELI[T]...
or F(ilius) DEL.... Delmatari?


letter I in the D? Also the DEL looks very much like the DEl in the third line.
Also not clear wtehter Montan(i)us or Monimus and the A?NNI IIX could be a word ending on NI and the numeral only being IX in stead of IIX?

Strange text, may of course contain a strange error in the lettering or the latin but the formula seems not very standard anyway...

better pics of the text would be great.

Could be a bit large for a shield, but you never know...

I see the lines too Ruben, but I wonder whether they are not really cracks as you can more clearly see in the lower left quadrant.

It just seems, to my eye at least, that they are too uniformly curved and arranged to just be cracks.
