Passion of The Passion - Gaius Decius Aquilius - 04-18-2004

From the Albuquerque Tribune, April 17:

"Speaking of the 'Passion' phenomenon, the Glassport (PA.) Assembly of God (with) its Easter program that included the mock scourging of a youth minister in a bunny suit. The goal was to show Easter is not about a bunny but the suffering, death, and resurection of Jesus. The Associated Press reported some viewers were confused... (a) 4-year-old was 'crying and asking why the bunny was being whipped' ".
by
Terry Mattingly, Commentary.

And I suppose they didn't get the Roman armor right in this one either.
Oh no my "darlings"! Let's say it...: that's TOTALLY magnificent!

Valete,
Titus

P.S. Hey Antoninus, but just because you are not my kind of man...: (being like Traianus and Adrianus?...hummm: that's could be the only side of the roman re-enactment I'd not re-enact )

Re: The bunny - Anonymous - 05-09-2004

Me neither, Titus, me neither..
As for the bunny episode, I find it totally appalling.
It is amazing the amount of harm a bunch of control freaks, of any religion or creed, can do..
Had I been an american parent there seeing my kid crying, I would have sued the "Assembly of God" for eveything they had, and a bit more, for child abuse. And I'd probably have won.
Sheeesh.. Some good christians there..
"Let the children come to me". It seems they forgot that one.
Maybe they got confused between the Scriptures and the complete works of marquis de Sade?
On that day, some kids were deprived of a happy event, for reasons they could not understand, by sad adults trying to vent their hatred, their anger and their frustration at being totally unable to appreciate the beauty of life and the joy in the eyes of a kid.
I feel very sorry for this very ungodly "Assembly of God".
Allah' o Akhbar?
They grow beards too?

Edited by: Antoninus Lucretius at: 5/9/04 12:58 pm

Re: The bunny - TITVS SABATINVS AQVILIVS - 05-10-2004
De Sade was a clumsy amateur, THEY are the true sado-maso PROs, their way is so "industrial".

I remember yet how, in my child years, those #!>@ priests and nuns teachers in my school, terrified me with their #!>@ regular lessons about the devil! How many no-sleeping nights due to the fear of the "beast" and his possessed creatures... Doing that to a child (a lot of children I knew too)!!!
I hope they are taking their right punishment for it.
Hands off from the children in ANY sense! Parents, pay attention!

Vale,
Titus

Erm... just a thought - Anonymous - 05-21-2004

With whom does he agree, I wonder. Is this not a case of Julius and Caesar agreeing?
Just read through all those posts. - Anonymous - 05-24-2004

Interesting topic.

Lot's of religous discussion (what a surprise ). Anyways, my 2 cent:

Some people seem to look at the bible as some kind of history book, which it is not. (sidenote: I don't want to insult anyone and I respect everyone's believes. I don't call myself a Christian, though I've been baptized when I was little)

ok back to the bible. There are many historical facts in it: Jesus existed and was crucified, he preached in Judea, and so on. but people shouldn't forget that the apostels wrote their books under different circumstances, serving different purposes:

The Romans aren't blamed for the crucification, Pilatus is washing his hands. Now as a member of a small community called Christians in the 1st century in the Roman empire I wouldn't write a book blaming the Romans as well. 2nd reason was that many of them went to Rome and wanted to seperate themselves from the Jews because they didn't want to be a jewish sect so they kind of blamed them for it.

Another thing is the Nazareth/Betlehem story: the prophecy said that the messiah would be born in Betlehem, so I think that's a good reason to change the story and invent a census as has been mentioned before.

There were many other things in the bible which obviously have been changed or invented just to match with some other stories and things. as I said don't forget that the bible is not only ment to report facts but to be a basis for the Christians and ppl who want to become Christians. There are many things in the story added to establish connections to the Old Testament ( Jesus' words before he dies for example).
As I said before this has nothing to do with peoples believes and I don't want to say you shouldn't believe in the bible if you are a Christian, just don't use it as a source for accurate historical facts and such.

There was a really nice issue of the German GEO magazine about Jesus in January or February adressing some of those things if I remember correctly.
