Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - caiusbeerquitius - 01-18-2007 Wonderful! Laudes! Could you post pics holding the shield in the two positions described by you? Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - Gaius Julius Caesar - 01-19-2007 |Wow! Totaly awesome! Thet is great work! Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - hoplite14gr - 01-19-2007 Well done Chris. Now a touch of red and it will be perfect. Kind regards Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - Craig Gascoigne - 01-20-2007 Chris lovley work. Well done Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - Chris B - 01-20-2007 Where would there have been red for certain? I was under the impression from our discussions that the old landowners were all black? Let me know. Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - hoplite14gr - 01-21-2007 "old landowners were all black" correct. (black background) The style of the era though included 3 colors. So some suggestions: A touch of red on the scorpions eyes or last segment of the tail. A touch of red on the personal emblem. Kind regards Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - caiusbeerquitius - 01-21-2007 Weren´t the Thespians deploying black and white/silver only? Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - hoplite14gr - 01-21-2007 Quote:Weren´t the Thespians deploying black and white/silver only? No. Thespians had 3 shield devices and silver was not among the "official" colors. I can see that game designers have already done their damage. Kind regards Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - Chris B - 01-21-2007 Okay, assuming that I put eyes on the scorpions.....Did they have multiple eyes like a real scorpion or only two? The tail is done. I don't know if eyes would look good or not. Almost would look like an after thought to me. I'd still like to know, but there is red on the stinger of each scorpion now. Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - caiusbeerquitius - 01-21-2007 Quote:No. Thespians had 3 shield devices and silver was not among the "official" colors.Ahh, don´t blame any game designers... I usually don´t play any computer games, seems a waste of time to me. I just thought I remembered that from a different thread here. So what were the thesbian shield devices, then? Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - hoplite14gr - 01-21-2007 Chris: touch of red on tail better. Or red on the cental disc of the personal emblem. Based on the bight red star of the Scorpio constelation caled "ANTARES" probably one prominent red eye. Cristian: the Thespians had a "Spartoi" clans so a type of snake is asociated with them and Hecate and Melena Aphroditi were among the patron daities of the city so the emblems related to them crecent among them. We still research to reconstruct them. Kind regards Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - Giannis K. Hoplite - 01-22-2007 http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o118 ... Museum.jpg People, take a look at this...Is it what it seems to be or do you think it was decorative or something? It looks much the same as what this guy is holding http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o118 ... grsold.jpg I think it in Olympia museum? It was long ago that I visited it and I don't remember seeing this find. However I think the helmets next to it are in Olympia. Khairete Giannis Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - hoplite14gr - 01-22-2007 The first pic was a "visiting exibition" from Olympia Museum. The shield though comes from a statue. The second pic is from Dodona Museum. Kind regards Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - Giannis K. Hoplite - 01-22-2007 From a large statue though, probably real size, right? So,wouldn't the shape be accurate? Also,do you know of what period was the statue? Re: Boeotian/Dipylon Shield - Anonymous - 01-23-2007 Since the chap is wearing a bell cuirass, it's Archaic Period or represents the Archaic Period. |
