According to my Locus magazine that just arrived, Ridley Scott has bought film rights to Joe Haldeman's "The Forever War." According to the article, Scott has wanted to film it for 25 years, but the original buyer has refused to sell the rights until this year. At last, a classic sf novel in the hands of a director of the first rank.

Good book -- very much of the Vietnam War even though it is set in the far future.
There was actually a pretty good graphic novel of it released several years ago.
Scott does well with Sci Fi so this could be good -- it will be interesting to see who he casts.

I read it as a teen. A corker.

IIRC it was even turned into a stage play.

The very "graphic novel" I was speaking of. Yes, I thought it a pretty good visualization of the story. Not sure if Scott will follow this or be inspired by some entirely new look... probably the latter.
Hope Scott can capture the sense of irony as well.
This could be good.

It won't be Scott's visualization so much as that of his production designer. "Blade Runner," for instance, was dominated by Syd Mead's production design, which was in turn derived from the French "Metal Hurlant" magazine. Cinema is a collaborative process.

It looks like we will have a lot of wars from the future, with this one and Terminator Salvation... :?
