EDIT:
For reconstructing Augustan period legionary, according to the helmet database the Gallic Type A was used 1st c. BC to 1st c. AD... how many reenactors use this helm for that period?

Legio X Fretensis information from Robert Garbisch, not completely in the line of most thought, but not bad. Assumes that LEG X FRET crucified certain political prisoners in the AD 30's but other than that...... I can give you his email address if you want it.
yes, loads of groups use regular Roman legion troops as the executioners in Judea in the AD30's even though most research shows only auxiliary units stationed there... Thank you Mel Gibson, and Hollywood....
Also look at the Legio X FRET

or here

if the first one is shoiwng errors
Do not use Dando-Collins fictional histories as a basis for your impression.

Quote:I take it from what I've read that the more authentic suits of mail are one line riveted, one butted?
Actually, it would be alternating rows of rivetted and
Punched, not butted.

I use that helmet and like it very much. You can see some pics at
www.11thlegion.com and many more at

As to the hamata, the least expensive authentic hamata is available at
this site
This is the one I have. You will not find an acceptable hamata cheaper than that.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions. Also want to thank Icelandic, Gaius Fabius, and Gaius Calvus for the links, they have been very helpful. Peroni, thanks for the info on the Deepeeka AH4211N Gladius. I should have done a little more research before getting the AH4211, now i'll have to get another Gladius, as the one i just bought is not correct
. SOWT doesn't have AH4211N listed on their site, anyone know who sells them?
I plan to put togeather a full kit and possibly get into reenacting, even if i have to start a group here in Oregon.
Thanks again everyone for your help.

Email Rusty at SoTW...shipping will be cheaper than coming over the pond (no offense Adrian!). Rusty also is carrying deepeeka's new "N" line of products, so chances are he has it or can get it.
